This is my favorite one-pot go-to recipe for a busy weeknight! This instant pot beef tips with gravy recipe (easy dinner) is comfort food made with simple ingredients you already have in your kitchen. A favorite meal that is craved by all ages!

This dish features browned stew meat in the instant pot with a delicious gravy that goes perfectly with egg noodles or mashed potatoes. This makes a quick meal that is hearty and comforting.

It is my children’s favorite meal to have for dinner. Not only will your family love this, but also you will love this ONE POT meal! it makes a delicious and easy dinner followed by an easy cleanup!

Growing up my Moldovian mother made beef tips with gravy for almost every Sunday dinner! Although she has never used an instant pot…(that is my modern twist.) If you have some extra time you can defiantly make beef tips with gravy on the stove using a stew pot, although the cooking time will have to change while it slowly simmers for a few hours. If you don’t own an electric pressure cooker, a stove is a great option! But as a busy mom who works from home and runs a homestead, I never have extra time lol.

You can find stew tips at your local grocery store, or you can as your butcher for beef tips. This is a great recipe to use up any leftover beef tips

My mom always made this recipe with pork meat, I personally prefer beef. But pork makes a very flavorful gravy as well.

Easy recipe for a one-pot meal- Any meal with fewer dishes is a favorite in my book! And you can have dinner on the table in less than 40 minutes! If you love instant pot recipes, then you will love this one!

Beef gravy can be served in many ways- My favorite way is to enjoy beef gravy is over egg noodles or mashed potatoes! Sometimes I make quinoa or buckwheat and the ONLY way my kids would eat grains like that is if it’s hidden under a big serving of beef gravy!

Tender beef– My husband doesn’t like beef, but when I make this recipe he loves it! he always compliments me on how soft and tender the meat is. And the children can eat it without a problem. The instant pot does a great job at making tender meats quickly! this is the one I use and love!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds beef chuck roast (beef tips)
  • 3 medium carrots
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 2 1/2 cups water or beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup fresh tomato puree or 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vegeta seasoning (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • parsley for topping

How to make instant pot beef tips with gravy recipe (easy dinner)

Cut the beef into 1/2-inch cubes (bite-sized pieces) Turn your instant pot to the saute function on medium and let it heat up with the lid open. Drizzle in 2 tablespoons of olive oil and add the cubed beef. Season beef, then brown the meat on all sides using the instant pot on the saute setting on high pressure for 5-8 minutes till the liquid from the meat has evaporated. Stir the meat on occasion.

Follow the same steps if you are making instant pot beef tips with gravy recipe (easy dinner) on the stovetop

If you are using a stew pot, start sauteeing on medium-high heat then turn it down to medium-low when you add onions and carrots.

Chop onions, switch from high-pressure saute to low-pressure, saute onions with the meat for 3 minutes, then add in grated carrots, and continue to saute for another 3 minutes. Mixing it constantly to make sure it doesn’t burn. Sauteing the meat first makes a deliciously rich gravy.

Add in grated tomato (grate a fresh tomato- discarding the tomato skin) or tomato paste. My mom always used freshly grated tomatoes for the best results. Or you can use tomato paste if you don’t have fresh tomatoes. This is especially delicious in the summertime using garden tomatoes.

Continue to saute the tomato puree for 3 minutes then add water or beef stock and the bay leaf. Make sure to deglaze the bottom of the instant pot so you doubt get the burn notice.

Close the lid and set the instant pot to manual high pressure for 20 minutes. Don’t forget to turn the steam nozzle off so the steam doesn’t escape. If you are making beef gravy on the stove-Cover the stew pot with a lid and let it simmer for 40 minutes or until the meat is tender.

Quick release the pressure on the instant pot and take the lid off.

Make a cornstarch slurry by mixing 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water (if you like a thicker gravy add 2 tbl cornstarch) then add it to the beef gravy in the instant pot. Set the instant pot to sautee setting again on high pressure and let the beef tips gravy come to a simmer. add 1/4 cup of heavy cream. Taste for salt and pepper. Top it off with freshly chopped parsley. To make this a complete meal serve it over noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes.

INSTANT POT BEEF TIPS WITH GRAVY RECIPE (EASY DINNER)

  • QUICK RELEASE THE PRESSURE ON THE INSTANT POT AND TAKE THE LID OFF.

Set the instant pot to sautee setting once again on high pressure and let the beef tips gravy come to a simmer. add 1/4 cup heavy cream. Taste for salt and pepper.
